Check out my review and let me know if you plan on seeing A United Kingdom!
First and foremost, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! The clean slate of a new year is always intoxicating to me, and although I don’t formally “do” New Year Resolutions, I actually do have some goals that I’ve been thinking about, planning for, and some I’ve actually already started!
Although I know that more goals will come along with the coming days, here are the ones I’m starting off with!
- Give bullet journaling a try (I think my new InkWELL Press Planner will lend itself to this very nicely
- Utilize Bublish on a regular basis, I’ve had an account forever but haven’t done anything with it
- Try #3 with Scrivener…I tried it a while back then stopped using it (something I blogged about), I’ve got Sub Rosa in it already so now I’m in the middle of going through the handy online tutorials and YouTube reviews
- Complete and share more writing-related product reviews (especially apps!)
- Share the deets of our TTB Book Club with YOU! Because we want YOU!
- Start sharing another aspect of my writing life with you…I’m a film critic for Film Obsession and it’s definitely a different world from fiction writing!
- Give the website a nice fresh facelift!
I think that’s a good start for now! Do you have any writing resolutions that you want to share? Or have you tried any of the things I’ve listed above?
Remember in my last post I mentioned I had a couple of pieces of good news I was waiting to share? Well I’m super-psyched to share the first one with you…thanks to a dear friend, MontiLee Stormer, I’ve been given the chance to spread my writing wings (fingers?) a little wider and be a content provider for Film Obsession. This means I get see new movies…before they’re officially released…and write reviews on them.
Let me repeat that…they want me to watch lots of movies…and write about them.
I don’t think I need to spell out my reaction or how loud I screamed or how fast I typed YES PLEASE THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! Movies and writing, two of my favorite things in the entire world!
Please head over and check out the site…I was actually already a fan well before this happened because it’s chock-full of honest reviews, news, giveaways(!!!), and all-around awesome good stuff. And *deep breath* my first official review is live too, you can see what I thought about Nerve.
I won’t be cross-posting all my future movie reviews here, but if you follow TTB’s Twitter or my own personal Twitter, I’ll be Tweeting when one is posted. When (I refuse to say if) a movie is made based on a book by one of us hard-working indie writers, that review will absolutely be posted here because DUH!
I’m thinking the second piece of good news will be posted here this weekend. Talk to you soon!!!
P.S. – I’m having some fun with Snapchat too, feel free to add me as a friend, my username is strikesncharms!
Perhaps second only to the 50 Shades of Blah movie in terms of OMG TEH BOOK IS NOW A MOVIE!!!!!! is Gone Girl.
I had very…ummm…mixed feelings about the book, and my review reflected that. Well, perhaps not so mixed just…polarized. Most people who have read it have very distinct “before the…” and “after the…” reactions to it. To tell you more would be to spoil it. And watch the trailer without fear, it doesn’t give away much…except that Ben Affleck is Nick? Well…alrighty then. I’m sure he fits right in at The Bar. /meta tee hee
Have you read Gone Girl? Feel free to spoil away in your comment or link to your review of it! What did you think? Love it, hate it, meh it…are you planning to see the movie?
Just a quick post here, being that Britt and I are taking a self-imposed week-long vacation from all things Pistils for clarity (HAHAHAHAHAHA, anyway) as we await our paperbacks…she’s going to Vegas and I’m going to relax. Maybe.
So here is something quick and easy that makes me happy…websites that are so sweet (and I mean AWESOME, not fluffy bunnies) that they give me a toothache!* Check ’em out!
Forever Young Adult: Does what it says on the tin, but it’s my go-to for their Vampire Diaries recaps. Go ahead, judge away, see if I care!
Television Without Pity: Has forums and recaps for almost EVERYTHING! What is especially nice is that their forums are heavily moderated, so spammers, trolls, and morons are weeded out at warp speed. They do have fairly strict (but fair) rules about posting, so read those over before you fling yourself into the latest Blacklist discussion.
1bruce1: They have recaps of almost all the Sweet Valley books. Mission accomplished, nostalgia achieved, ’nuff said.
WatchMojo.com (YouTube channel): Are you a total sucker for anything involving a COUNTDOWN?!?!? I know, me too. Tell me about a show counting down the Top 10 Most Boring Things on Earth, and I’ll watch it. This YouTube channel takes the countdown thing to a whole other level…they have hundreds? thousands? of countdowns, ranging from Top 10 Movie Crime Bosses to Top 10 Creepy Kids Movies.
And finally, drumroll please…one of my hands-down favorite places to go when I need a laugh…Cleolinda, aka Occupation: Girl! Everything she writes is made of win, but you must must MUST check out her Movies in 15 Minutes (seriously, this is not an option, you MUST) and if you’re a Twilight fan (or not), check out her Twi recaps. The Secret Life of Dolls, although not updated in a long time, is also worth reading. Just…not at work. They may mistake your choking and wheezing as a dire medical emergency as opposed to restrained laughter.
Do you have a favorite (or even favorite guilty pleasure/toothache)? Please feel free to share it here, I’m always looking for new ones!!!
*(c) Clueless, or at least that was the first place I heard the expression!
